Cut the top part from the onion, peel and place the cut part facing down on the chopping board. Slice from the top of the onion down, leaving the top part in place to keep the onion together. Rotate 90º and cut again. Repeat until you have 4 slices. Keep slicing each section in half until you have 16 sections.
